One that Stokowski arranged
Why would JSB arrange a D Major fugue in D# Minor rather than write one in the same key as the prelude ?
... in Book Two, Bach writes the Major pair in En, and the minor pair in D#?!Numquam Satis!

Cantata BWV 69; "Lobe den Herrn, meine Seele"
I have my Laptop back, with a keyboard that copies and pastes and plays "All of Bach" videos without going "Is it on the trolley" first! Absolute Bach! (Which is even better than "absolute bliss".) I digress - but thanks again to Edgey for doing the honours last week.
This week, "Praise the Lord, my Soul", Peter Dijkstra directs a 3VpP performance of this pulse-thumping work, recorded in the now-familiar Walloon church in Amsterdam. (The "recording details" seem a bit puzzling, as it suggests that today is 19th January!)
I sometimes wonder about who writes the accompanying essaylettes - Many of the devout town councillors would have been concerned during the opening section. Talk about theatrical! ... well, perhaps, but given that their preferred choice would have been Telemann rather than Bach, concern about "theatricality" didn't seem to figure very highly. Wha'evva - the performance is wonderful.Numquam Satis!

BWV 1011, 'Cello Suite in c minor.
... played by Hindemi Suzuki (younger brother of Masaaki) and recorded six months ago in Amsterdam's Royal Tropical Institute.
(The "was this really composed by Mrs Bach?" gets short shrift )Last edited by ferneyhoughgeliebte; 23-02-18, 23:09.Numquam Satis!

This is my favourite of Bach's Cello Suites and one that often comes to mind when I'm listening to Britten's or Weinberg's music for solo cello.
Loved the interviews.

Fantasia in g minor, BWV917
Early Bach - a 2min 40" work for solo harpsichord, played by Bertrand Cuiller, recorded in May last year in the 17th Century Bartolotti House in Amsterdam (and played, I think, on one of the late Gustav Leonhardt's instruments).
