Prelude & Fugue in c# minor, BWV 849
The fourth couple in the first book of The Well-Tempered Clavier, given a performance by Bertrand Cuiller that reveals the literally wonderful simultaneity of passion and detachment of this literally marvellous Music. Literally splendid!

How can so few seconds of music lead to so much good feeling.

One of Bach's Motets this week - the optimistic and upbeat Funeral Motet Fürchte dich nicht, ich bin bei dir BWV228. The performance, recorded in Naarden's Great Church and conducted by Stephan MacLeod, is a bit smooth and "routine" for me - but still good to hear it again.

My personal prejudice was kept satisfied with a line up of gorgeous females in the choir. Unisex sections are fine with me, but I'm uncomfortable with implications of female exclusion, even if it is a 500 year odd tradition.
