Agreed. I wish we could go Bach to the future.

A lovely and fairly short (just four Movements, lasting under 12.5 minutes) Cantata this week - BWV 156, Der Friede sei mit dir ("Peace Be With You") for Bass, Soprano, and Violin solos. Some uncertainty about for which Church occasion this was written - no doubt that it is an utter delight.

(Nice to see that the Bass soloist has highlighted his vocal score with yellow ink, so he doesn't get lost! )

Thanks for the flag, ferney !

What a site this is! This one has had repeat plays here: http://allofbach.com/en/bwv/bwv-29/

        .

PS - and the youngsters playing Inventions http://allofbach.com/en/bwv/bwv-772-786/ - mentioned by Rob and Padraig upthread
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

          Thanks guys.
AoB goes from strength to strength.
I often listen to the new work more than once and then find myself revisiting previous episodes then realise that I've been on the site for hours.
Does this thread not deserve pride of place in the reference library ?

It's always difficult to find the short phrase or sentence which sums up one's reaction to these wonderful pieces - and I mean 'wonderful'. Whether it's form or orchestration, vocal or instrumental Bach gets it right. Of course his inspiration is out of this world, even when it is directed towards works for the king of instruments. BWV 156 was a fine example of much in a little - small resources expertly deployed for a big outcome. I particularly liked the bass soprano aria - a lot of bass with a gentle sprinkle of soprano silver.

              BWV 726

Herr Jesu Christ,Dich Zu Uns Wend

I feel short changed less than a minute of music.
So much happening in such a short time, sounds like it could have been written in the 20th century

... it does sound as if there should be a Fugue following on from the last bar, doesn't it!

I love these organ miniatures, and this was a stunner. Not necessarily a Fugue to follow - perhaps a Charlie Parker solo.
