    Festivals 2014

Which festival(s) are you looking forward to this year?

I regularly attend the Brinkburn Music Festival, which is held in the atmospheric location of Brinkburn Priory on the banks of the Coquet, not far from Rothbury. The festival was established by Paul McCreesh, but he stepped down as artistic director last year due to other commitments. The new team have an intersting programme. I am looking forward to catching the Hilliard Ensemble in their final tour before disbanding.

Northern Aldborough Festival and perhaps also the Ryedale Festival.

We'll also make a trip south to a little festival called The Proms!

I hope to be going to at least one concert from each of the following festivals in the summer and early autumn:

          Hellens Manor, Herefordshire
          Carducci Highnam Festival, Gloucestershire
          Cheltenham Festival
          Gower Festival
Swansea Festival (John Lill giving a 70th birthday recital concert there)

Hmm... well it is marked on UK road maps, situated pretty well equidistant from Telford and Wolverhampton, on the A442 road about 30 minutes north of Kidderminster.

How about a Haydn Seek festival ?
Where you are given clues and have to go on a treasure hunt to see if you can find string quartets in remote locations.

(Actually, that's not a bad idea ! Any takers ?)

They are all in the wrong place, or at the wrong time.

except lovely Wickham, but that is folk/pop/rock/world, so I won't mention that, although its a really fabulous 4 days. And I'm going.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I am looking forward to the East Neuk Festival (based in Crail) in early July, the last week of the Edinburgh Festival, and of course to visiting Glyndebourne.
