    Oh heck,

    I could consider the following:

    Hugh Wood's Symphony

    Rubbra's 11th Symphony

Ades': Tevot (that name sounds strangely familiar ;-)

But I would probably plump for:

    Vaughan Williams' - Piano Concerto

Conveniently buy, stream or download at Naxos anytime. Add 8.572304 from Naxos to your classical music collection today.

It has also been posted on youtube for those adventurous enough to explore

The RVW Piano Concerto was played at the 2008 Proms, though the performance was a poor one and a thunderstorm also intruded. I wouldn't recommend the naxos recording either, the Piers Lane one on cfp is far more preferable.

In fact Tevot, the Rubbra,RVW and Wood would make a super Prom.
Sc I agree re the Piers Lane record.

Ahhh,RVW's Piano Concerto, one of the ,for me,most heartwrenchingly beautiful slow movements in all music.

Has RVW's PC only been played once at the Proms ? That is a necessary criterion of this thread !

4 times according to the archive.
But by bending the rules ever so slightly,in the version for 2 pianos it has featured only once.

I was at that Prom, and felt that the VW needed all the help it could get, storm and all! His piano concerto is the nearest thing to a dull work that he wrote IMHO, but then, even Mozart nodded, as in his Concerto for Flute and Harp.

                  - along with the Clarinet Concerto, my favourite of the Wind Concertos (and better than any of the solo Violin Concertos, too).

FHG, I am afraid agree with FF re the Flute-Harp (the flute was Mozart's pet-hate ), but I do agree with you re the violin concertos and ofcourse the clarinet concerto is a master piece beyond any doubt

I was also 'd by FF finding the RVW Piano Concerto dull.

C'mon Roehre and Fhg, back me up, tell me it's a masterpiece.

Erm ... there's no easy (for me) way of saying this, but ... I don't know the work.

                        ... a youTubing I go ...

I don't think it is 2nd rate RVW, though I must confess that I prefer the 2-piano-version, with its Bax-symphony-3-quote.
I recall that particular Proms very well, I don't think -as I also did at the time- that it did the work justice.

Moeran: Rhapsody No 3 for piano and orchestra.
This has just been recorded by JoAnn Falletta and the Ulster Orchestra. There is also a very good performance by Vernon Handley, also with the Ulster Orchestra, and Margaret Fingerhut. My own favourite is John McCabe as soloist with Nicholas Braithwaite and the NPO on Lyrita.

To paraphrase Amazon, 'We see that you enjoy concertos, so can we recommend Mozart's Clarinet Concerto played by Martin Frost ? " A terrific performance coupled with the Kegelstatt Trio.
