Nicholas Hytner will be free soon, I think, as he leaves the NT - not someone with a background in classical music though he has directed quite a few operas. I think he would do a lot for drama, for involvement with live performance, having broadcast partnerships with major arts organisations (as Hall seems to want the BBC to do) and he would be opposed to patronising the audience. So almost certainly no chance for him

Or, in other words, to stop marginalising it by placing it in ghettoes away from the popular services.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

agreed MrGongGong but some of it is not; he screwed jazz, 'live', and put 'chat' on air .... and does any one listen to Free Thinking and find it rewarding?
