I'd like to add Oscar Levant to my list.

I suspect some might like Pierre Boulez to be considered too.

I have heard of Oscar Levant, I know my dad likes(d) him, but I can't say I have heard or seen anything of his performances.

Regarding Boulez, for some strange reason, I keep forgetting about him!

Last year, when a friend asked me what I thought about modern music and modern composers, I never mentioned him once! And I'd been to a few Boulez concerts around that time, added quite a number of PB CDs to my collection last year, and PB has been one of my favourite composers, from the moment I started getting into classical!

He'll go on my updated list!

Oscar Levant had many of the qualities of Andre Previn: composer, taught and respected by Schoenberg; composed many film scores; superb pianist; worked with Copland and Gershwin; versatile mix of styles; actor and comedian; singer.

Yes - I do this, too: mainly because he is so important (and "obvious") that I overlook him, presuming that everyone else was (also) taking his inclusion for granted.

Phew! I'm glad I'm not the only one.

And yes, your explanation is probably why.

I've had a look through the programmes on the TV iPlayer under the "Music" category - has a Prom with Hickox conducting, a half hour Pears/Britten recital, a Boulez BBCSO concert and I also came upon this
                  Julian Bream Masterclasses/Festival - 5 programmes from 1978:

                  (Hope this isn't a repetition).
