Refreshing. The opposite end of the scale from Gwyneth Jones and Helen Field.

Same here but not because I don’t like post-1800 singing. I haven’t yet got to know it.

        Elin Manahan Thomas
        Nuria Rial
        Veronique Gens
        Karina Gauvin

By the way, your link doesn’t work.

I doubt I know enough of it either—I'm sure there are singers who can make operatic style work, I've just been turned off by some who couldn't.

It should if you refresh. It's someone from Les Arts Florissants singing Charpentier, but I haven't been able to figure out who.

Works for me - in all senses of the phrase!

Am amazed at the lack of Callas support here . I am off to listen to her sensational 1950s recital of bel canto arias in disbelief.

Not as a judgement on your other recommendations doversoul, but she is special (to me)!

I'm almost as surprised as you are! Two renowned sopraneyhoughs! That said, it was another soprano who, having performed BF's Études transcendentes almost a decade ago, responded to my question as to how it had gone (I could not attend personally) "it went well, thank you, but a very difficult piece...still recovering!!"...
