Heavens, yes, that Brosse transformation is very alarming, much more so than Rousset! I never got his Duphly LP set - but Vints, was it ever re-released on CD? What do you mean about it not being the same?

We were treated to a wonderful 2 CD set of Duphly pieces with Rousset a short while ago - such a pity he didn't do the whole lot.

Hi Micky - there is a set of CDs of Duphly performed by Brosse which came out about 2003, on the arion/pierre verany label, recorded at the Comminges Festival. To my ears it's much less fine than my memory of the Brosse Duphly which I had in a sumptuous box set of vinyl records, perhaps from the 1980s? - but sadly it's only "my memory" of that, because I no longer have those (or any other) vinyls. I cannot find any trace of those records - they may have been EMI? - and I just nourish a faint hope they might be reissued in CD form...

EDIT - the amazon.fr reviewer's comment is perhaps useful -

Steady on! Rousset is eleven years younger than Brosse - it's hardly a "like-for-like" comparison.

Thanks, Vints...I had a listen to the Verany disc and thought the recorded sound rather close for my taste. I am sure you are right about the earlier discs being superior. They were indeed on EMI, and I remember in my youth lingering in Templar Records, wondering if I should spend so much of my limited budget on acquiring them - prudence got the better of me and I didn't! The funny thing is that the 2 CD Rousset recital is played on the same Kroll harpsichord that Brosse used in that first set. As you say, let's hope that someone reissues them in the future, but I doubt it. Have you ever heard the newish Belder set on Brilliant? Any thoughts?

Oops, my apologies to Mr Brosse!

Maybe they'll fill the other half with some music.

This looks exciting. Decca Vocal Recitals.

Up until the 1980s it's pretty much a repeat of the recent Decca Most Wanted Recitals collection that was released recently and I am thankful that I didn't invest too heavily in that and where I did it was mainly on the Philips discs (Deutekom and Carreras). Some real pickings in this box though and it looks like they have filled up the CDs with material which is good.
