    Nice one Pet.

I see there's a Mahler 4 DVD out on Monday as well too.

    Concertgebouw/Haitink/Ewing

Not sure of the date of recording, but then Bernard has always been a supreme interpreter of the Fourth.

The Haitink Mahler 4 is, I think, the Christmas Day concert from 1982 in which case we both already have it. Unless, that is, you are eager to have the blu-ray version.

Oh right on Pet. Offers hope that the remaining symphonies will be reissued for the many who missed getting the Christmas set.

Maazel's live Philharmonia M7-9 is out next week too. An interesting if idiosyncratic cycle.

Welcome back Mahlerei. We rarely talk about Mahler on here now!

Another enticing new release is the Stenz/Gürzenich Gurre-Lieder from Hyperion...

If the remasterings are as good as those for the Mahler box, I shall find this irresistable!

Room on the shelves for one more set, BeefO?
I have the Bernstein Symphony box, and also his DG Sibelius (c/w Elgar!). I recently wanted to play the 7th to a small group of friends, and I left the choice of NY vs Vienna PO to the last minute. The Vienna version has some nice touches, but the NY version has enormous momentum and my CD sounded pretty good. In the end that was the one I played, which I think stunned some who'd not heard either that performance or the symphony before.

Is it likely that this new set will bring significant advantages? There is mention of improved sound on other Bernstein reissues.

What a lovely album. The famous concerto is played with a wonderful simplicity and purity of expression by soloist and orchestra alike, and the 38-minute OP.75 Serenade has two gorgeous, atmospheric, lazy-summer-evening slow movements, interspersed with catchy marches and dances. In Memoriam is a surprisingly intense inspiration too. The neutral, transparent sound is as natural as ever from CPO, and set in a warm, spacious acoustic (Sendesaal Hannover). (Purchased as 16/44.1 Download).

I love taking a punt on things - I came across this browsing on Qobuz and just felt drawn to it... very glad I acted on my intuition!

Had an e-mail from Amazon to say that this release has been delayed until August 22. Disappointed.

Not new I suppose but the long awaited reissue of the Monteux Beethoven set is due this month .

One that does catch my eye is the Lutoslawski Piano Concerto with Zimerman/BPO/Rattle coupled with the Second Symphony .

Yes, that attracted my eye, too! It'll be interesting to compare Zimerman with Rattle (who, in his CBSO years conducted a very fine performance of the Third Symphony) with his premiere recording with the Composer. And the Lutos Second - after some years when it didn't quite set off many sparks for me - is becoming one of my favourite of his works.
