This new recording of Vinci's opera Catone in Utica looks interesting. Another countertenor extravaganza, it has Max Emmanuel Cencic, Franco Fagioli and others. There's a promotional video on YouTube, here. Fagioli does pull some funny faces when he's singing, though. Presto have 24/96 download for slightly less than the CDs, which is tempting. My boxes are positively disintegrating under the sheer weight of ticks. Ed Reardon

I was amazingly lucky in my 'choices' when I started buying LPs as a teenager. One that I picked up at a second hand shop in Manchester's Tib Street back then was Ancerl's recording of Dvorak's 9th with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra (recorded in 1958). For many years it was one of my treasured recordings but it has never, until now, been available on CD (even though it was re-issued as an LP numerous times on the Philips and Fontana labels).
(Also available on Qobuz for £7.99.)

Has anyone tried Serebrier's newish Dvořàk set yet? I'm sure that the rewriting (transposing?) of about 20 bars of Symphony 1 is going to really convert me! http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/int...rier-on-Dvorak
However, I think the recordings may be rather good.
