With all this negativity I'll HAVE to go and get it now, just when I'm trying to economise... so much for etc...AND it's overpriced for 16-bit.
Bet you ANYTHING YOU LIKE it turns out to be musically gorgeous... you'll have to give me time though.
Maybe Lamb Chop & Shari Lewis could go on the cover in JRiver.
BTW, Mackerras/SCO IS a great recording, just the reviewers who got it VERY wrong.

My own favourite is indeed Mackerras/SCO, which is a marvellous record - bucolic and genial at the same time as being wonderfully energized. There are lovely things in Boult (and a few oddities), and Kertesz manages to be neat-and-tidy as well as full of rhythmic life. But I can never hear enough of these pieces (especially Op. 16), and to hear them played by the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Chailly on their current form promises to be a treat. Fingers crossed!

The Missa Solemnis is a splendid addition to Bernard Haitink's discography.
And any new Tennstedt disc is an event - I always thought Klaus conducted a flipping good overture! I can imagine Egmont being really exciting!
There can't be very many more Tennstedt LPO performances left to be re-issued so this one is a cause for rejoicing. Incidentally, the Egmont Overture appeared on a BBC Legends CD that included the Beethoven 1 & 5 and Weber Oberon Overture."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
