... this cd indeed be tempting. In my time I picked up lots of SEON LPs and CDs - always interesting repertoire and fine performers. Infuriating that we don't know - yet - what this box will contain. It may well have too many duplicates of what I already have...

Now what we need is a big COMPLETE box of the STIL label - to include the legendary unavailable Rameau Zais. I know that MickyD has a copy .. grrr....

Oh my goodness, there goes the bank balance again! I had no idea that there were so many SEON discs that came out. Like Vints and Roehre, I picked up quite a few LPs and even some CD reissues some time ago. Great to see that the Leonhardt Duphly/Forqueray pièces de claveçin disc features here...to my knowledge it was never released on CD. It was my first introduction to those beautiful works. And I seem to remember that CPE/JS Bach D minor harpsichord concerto disc being particularly thrilling, too. I wonder if Amazon will do the box even cheaper?

As for the STIL reissues, I have my doubts, Vints. I guard that ZAIS set with my life! But as I have said before, I would be more than willing to make copies for you if you like...I know it's not the same as having the real set, but you could hear the delights of it! Frankly, I can't believe that other groups such as Les Arts Florissants haven't recorded it yet, but that could well be to do with those strange copyright laws that STIL had in place some years ago.

I Haven't Seen mention of the SEON Brandenberg Concerto set, led by Leonhart, which=my first exposure to period practice Bach. I have the lps and it still holds up well.

From what I can see of that list provided earlier, that set of the Brandenburgs is in the set too...I agree, Richard, they are lovely recordings. And didn't the original LPs provide a fascsimile of Bach's original scores, too?

As soon as you are used to the outlay of the score, it is an infinite source of joy.
This set was a Christmas present, and Mrs R (then my girlfriend) had to take the score and the set away otherwise I would have missed Christmas lunch

Lovely story, Roehre! I am so tempted to get this set, I guess it must include pretty much everything that came out on the Seon label. A must for we HIP collectors, really, so many important landmark recordings contained within.

                      The Originals - box set - http://www.amazon.de/The-Originals-D...CA404DEJPV0P0N

A very mixed bag - Phase 4 box - probably has some Stokowski material that might be worth having - together with "other stuff" - Ben Hur etc.

Phase 4 was always thought a bit dodgy recording wise, but there perhaps were some good performances.

I don't know about this - whether it's "classical" or modern or what - http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00L...e_epc__1p_0_ti
but it is new. Definitely seems more like a pop concert - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8XigsC-W0k Schiller - Symphonia - probably not for me.
[i couldn't even get to the end of the clip ...]

Not a new release - and with a German cover - but here is Gulda in Beethoven - http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B000...e_epc__1p_6_ti

The Bernard Herrmann discs are certainly worth having, and seem to me to be well-recorded, too. Herrmann fans will in all probability have them already, and several others not included in the set.

Pierre Monteux: The Complete RCA Album Collection - 40 discs. Significantly over-priced at the moment when set against comparable recent boxes. Still, it is not released until 01/12 so plenty of time for the price to come down.

Will be interesting to see what is added to the 15cd box from the 90s.

Re the "where is everyone" thread - I gave up mentioning new releases here because all the contributors seem to buy or investigate are - large boxsets of re-releases! ...So it goes, etc... but it's a pity in a brilliant year for the new, Contemporary and unexpected....

Well perhaps I missed it. I recently repurchased the lps from a shop here and yes, they did contain the facsimilies, a detail that I had completely forgotten.
When I first owned this set, I liked it, but it was one of my first HIPP purchases and I was put off by the string and oboe sounds. Revisiting these recordings
decades later they strike me as much less "radical" and I can relax and really enjoy them. These lps are not in great shape, however, and I am thinking of scrapping my vinyl rig altogether because I am tireing of problems like these, so i would welcome the chance to purchase them digitally.
