The CD of Henze symphonies is more out of the ordinary than most. There's also one of music by Mondonville - a composer of whom I was completely unaware until two minutes ago.
The Mondonville disc is absolutely delightful...snap it up without delay if you like elegant French baroque music! There are some haunting movements in it.

Pity they mixed up Adam and Ivan Fischer in their description of the Bartok disc.

This forthcoming box set of Mozart symphonies and overtures conducted by Hogwood is most probably a re-release - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mozart-The-S...hogwood+mozart £73.99

Assuming it's more or less the same, the earlier version is slightly cheaper.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mozart-Symph...hogwood+mozart - £70.90 and cheaper still from marketplace sellers. The earlier version looks like Oiseau Lyre style packaging.

The earlier issue is currently available for £60.23 including p&p if ordered from Germany via the amazon.co.uk marketplace. It does indeed look like a simple repackaging.

That's the way to do it! Duly ordered, though from what I remember from the library set I borrowed some years ago, K135 lacks its associated minuet from 61h, which association the booklet notes stated to have been discovered only after the completion of the Hogwood/Schröder project. So (not really quite) like the Hogwood Haydn survey, it is incomplete.

[By the way, I chose to pay in £s at the amazon.it exchange rate which gave a total (with p&p) of £25.54.]

A quickie, Bryn. I can't remember - do you need a new Amazon registration for the am.it site, with new password? I had a feeling that some of the "foreign" amazon sites would work with the same password as the UK one, but not all of them - perhaps .... ?

Since I normally let my browser remember the password this kind of thing does cause a slight hiccup - I have a password file somewhere else, on another machine .... or ... I can request a new password.

Also, is the price for the Haydn set which also appears on am.it competitive? Could perhaps save on delivery charges to order both at the same time!

Sorry Dave, I can't remember re. the password issue. I have mine saved on my usual laptop for the various Amazon sites I use. I have not compared prices for the Haydn, and am currently updating and intalling loads of software on a newly purchased, slightly used, Acer Aspire 5742 laptop (i3 processor, 4GB RAM, etc. - not bad for £150). It has Windows 7, which was, along with the clearly very limited use it had had, the reason I got it as a spare. Anyway, if nobody else comes up with an answer to your question, I will check things out later, when back on my usual laptop.

I regularly use both uk and .it sites with the same ID and password. Should be the same for everyone I think. There are issues however with the Autorip option, if this is applicable to your purchase.

Bryn, no probs. I'll probably have checked things out by the time you get back - like you it just means moving to another machine!

What really gets me is changing a password on one machine, and then having to redo it on all the others - unnecessarily on occasions.

                          Dave

The same user name and password which you use for amazon.uk should work for amazon.it (and .es, .de etc etc). I recently changed my password on the UK site which meant that the first time I logged into amazon.it et al I needed to use the new UK password. So it all seems to be pretty seamless. The Haydn Hogwood set is now cheaper than ever (€42.99 when I last looked) and, given the improved £/€ exchange rate, works out at not much more than £1.00 per CD. I'm not sure about saving on postage buying 2 boxes together - I bought the Hogwood with the Ansermet French box and the delivery from "Italy" (in reality a warehouse somewhere in Northern France) to France seemed a bit high. However that was before Amazon changed its delivery rates so it may now be OK.

You won't regret buying the Haydn

Just thought I'd put it to the test, as well as testing my rusty Italian; once logged on was greeted with the cheery salutation "Ciao Mr", so clearly even my internet pidgin Italian gave my nationality away.

For the record "Ciao Mr..." is semantically incorrect! Mine just says Ciao (first name) .. .

Given the cheapness of certain boxes on AmIt, the delivery charges are peanuts e.g. the Hogwood Mozart box is €4.28; add in the Haydn box and it becomes €4.59. Substitute the Haydn for Lenny's Symphony Edition and the delivery is €5.92 - yes, it is more discs but the ridiculous LP size format of the box is probably also to blame. Incidentally, that Lenny box is just €53.90!
