Though I suspect some his overtures are still missing - and while they were at it why not incude the earlier excellent VPO New World.
    Here's a full listing:

With all the coupling options there should be no need to split symphonies across discs. This is cut-price assembly of previous couplings.

And the excellent (according to some, including me) Mozart Requiem? This seems to be a bit of a "love it or hate it" CD...... not sure why? Any answers welcomed.....

Given that his total Decca output was not massive maybe a complete Kertesz Vol 1 with more to follow may have been better. The Haitink Philips years was similarly flawed as is the SFSO Blomstedt. It would also be helpful if Decca made individual works available on download.

You are quite right; I've noticed that with so many of these "bumper" boxed sets recently, a long-time collector will almost certainly have the vast majority of the works contained therein, (or as you point out - there will be glaring omissions) making them on further analysis, really only great bargains for new collectors starting out on the road of discovery. For those new collectors, there is a treasure trove of bargain-priced boxed sets out there.

Indeed, I would appear to be a straight repackaging of:

with the addition of 3 discs to include the other symphonic poems, variations, overtures and Requiem. It is possibly a cheaper option to purchase them separately if going via the amazon marketplace. That said, the cheapest offer for the set illustrated above has risen £2 since I got mine last December.

As we're talking Kertesz, this is rather lovely:

+ a favourite Mozart K491 with Clifford Curzon on this good value twofer. Of course, he died tragically early in a swimming accident in 1973. Bernard Haitink, born the same year - 1929 - is still going strong.

Strangely, I never took to the performances of the K466 and K595 which Curzon recorded with Britten conducting the ECO (and which I think Curzon did not want to be issued - were they only issued after Curzon's death?) Some reviewers have praised them but for me something does not work between pianist and orchestra/conductor and perhaps this was what was unsatisfactory to Curzon. On the other hand his recordings of K488 and K491 with Kertesz and the LSO are wonderful and imo among the best performances of these concertos on disc. Kertesz' recordings of early Mozart concertos (K246, K271 and the Concert Rondo K386) with Ashkenazy are also very good.

What a lovely idea, having all those Oiseau Lyre issues in their original jackets. I have them all, except for the Carissimi cantatas which never appeared on CD....much as I am a fan, I really don't think I can justify buying 49 duplicates just for the sake of one I don't have!

Those jpc people are going to ruin me! The Vivarte box (also 50 CDs) is under 50 Euros, and, as pointed out, the OL issues look good - and I don't have all of them! I could (and possibly will!) easily spend £200 at jpc.de.

Two notable discs on Monday - Shostakovich 14 from Petrenko and Brahms PC 2 from Pollini with Thielemann.

There is an 11CD box of Reiner's complete RCA and Sony recordings due too shortly for £21.99 . I imagine the 11CDs will be originals with shortish playing times but still looks a bargain.

This had me jumping up and down with excitement until I investigated and found that it is, of course, the complete Richard Strauss recordings. I have most of those in previous incarnations so I won't be tempted but I can certainly recommend to anybody who is.
