Decca have released 50 "most wanted" operatic and vocal recital discs - never previously released on CD (although some material has been e.g. in their Grandi Voci series). They look marvellous. The complete list is on Presto. I'd much rather they'd released them all as a bargain box but you can't have everything. I still wait in vain for the Christina Deutekom two-disc recital devoted to Verdi, Bellini and Donizetti. It was a Philips release but they are part of the same stable so maybe it'll turn up in future batches.

Thanks for the tip. Three song recitals I do not know caught my eye:

      Hans Hotter/Geoffrey Parsons
      Hermann Prey/Gerald Moore - Wolf
      Souzay/Baldwin - Schumann

A recent release is a 12 CD set conducted by István Kertész. Perhaps not so many are interested in the performances by this conductor nowadays. http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/Decca/4786420

I am - still one of my favourites. But there would be too much duplication for me as I have a lot of those recordings from earlier issues. The Bartok, Dvorak, Mozart and Kodaly are particularly good imo.

Yes I am a fan too but quite a few of those have appeared on Eloquence and I have snapped them up there . The Bruckner 4 is very fine as are the Kodaly recordings and the Brahms serenades and the Dvorak goes without saying.

Yes, the Brahms serenades are wonderful, especially the first. I remember when I first heard in on LP being struck by the quality of the work, the orchestral playing and the Decca SXL sound. For anyone who does not know Kertesz' recordings, this would be a great set.

Lots of new boxes from Decca and DG coming out. There's also:

                Blomstedt: the SF years
                Marriner: the Argo years
                Giulini in Vienna

Too much duplication for me as well. It seems perverse not to include Dvorak's 'New World' symphony.

These boxes are all mixed blessings - their incompleteness is frustrating and very often the omissions and duplications make them unattractive - of the three above the Giulini is the only one to go on my order form.

This one took me by surprise:

"Walking In The Air": Ashkenazy plays Blake
Del boy: “Get in, get out, don’t look back. That’s my motto!”

THis looks like a really interesting new release:

                          Malcolm Williamson Complete Piano Concertos.

Can't say I care for the cover much, but that is a mere detail of course.

Norm's not too taken with the CD.

Lots of goodies there but some strange omissions. Where is the rest of the Dvorak Symphonies? I think I already have more than half the contents of the set.

rfg As an admirer of Kertesz's recordings I agree this is a very unsatisfactory set - a rather costly sampler. This is where the Dvorak is:

Though I suspect some his overtures are still missing - and while they were at it why not incude the earlier excellent VPO New World.
