Winterreise with Jonas Kaufmann and Helmut Deutsch on Sony is imminent. Likely to become a one of the definitive versions, one suspects.

Regarding Annie Fischer and the Bartok 3rd Piano Concerto, I'm wondering who the Conductor and Orchestra are.

Most likely Markevitch & LSO, I would think.

There is a recording out there of Bartok 3 with the Wiener Phil and Solti as the accompanists.

Not from the EMI stable, however, whereas I think the LSO/Markevitch was.

Listening to BH's B9 now. This is very fine.

It's slow but totally involving. Rarely has the symphonic discourse been so compelling.

Mine finally arrived this morning but haven't had chance to listen yet as I wanted to catch the RPO/Dutoit concert on R3. The B9 has a time of 67 minutes - nearly 10 minutes slower than van Beinum. 'Slow but totally involving' is how I remember it in the Barbican a year ago. Will listen tomorrow.

There is yet another CPE Bach box which was released not too long ago - http://www.brilliantclassics.com/rel...?id=FM00084077 30 CDs - I think about £50.

Thanks Dave, for flagging this one up....I find it hard to keep up with the constant stream of releases from Brilliant, and hadn't seen this one either.

The CPE Bach set seems to draw upon material from many catalogues...there are a few discs from the old Capriccio CPE Bach Edition which made its appearance at the end of the 80s...some of those choral works from Hermann Max are pretty good and worth hearing. There also seems to be a lot of new recordings, too. A definite bargain for those who don't have much - or any - CPE on their shelves.

I had a look at the listings of the larger Brilliant CPE Bach box expecting to see a lot of overlap with other boxes - such as the smaller Brilliant box, but it looks as though the performances are largely different. If I buy that as well I'll surely be maxed out on CPE Bach. Maybe ... though perhaps I don't like his music that much.

He he, yes, Dave, I can see that 30 CDs of CPE Bach might be just a tad too much for the unconverted! I've also had a look at the Brilliant website...happily for me, the very few works which I have yet to acquire and fill any gaps such as the organ sonatas, seem to be available in a separate 2 CD set from Brilliant as well. So no huge duplications for me, thankfully. But full marks to Brilliant for what they are doing....I see an enormous Complete Brahms Edition from them is due out next month, too.
