Decca is due to release Chailly's new Brahms Symphony cycle (with the Leipzig Gewandhaus) on 7 October. His previous cycle was notable mainly for a very decent version of the second (a one-time BaL winner overlooked in the most recent survey), but the rest was less successful. Still, I'm optimistic about this new set from the snippets I've heard. Looks reasonably priced at the grocer too.

The same orchestra and conductor are at performing a Brahms cycle at the Barbican this October, symphonies and concertos. I'm down for Symphony No. 4 and the Violin Concerto with Kavakos.

Ditto, plus the Arcadi Volodos Brahms 2nd piano concerto concert. Volodos seems to be a rare artist to catch sight of. I've been trying, not terribly vigorously, but hopelessly ineffectively, for over 20 years.

That Concertgebouw cycle was coupled with works from the 2nd Viennese School, Brahms 2 e.g. coupled with Webern's Im Sommerwind. It was for this that I bought Chailly/RCO/Brahms 2. and that Brahms turned out to be very decent, to say the least....

Good to see that George Szell's Beethoven symphony cycle is soon to appear as a Sony boxed set. I've been waiting for this never having heard them before.

And still they come: a brand new Beethoven symphony cycle from Mariss Jansons and the BRSO interestingly coupled with some modern pieces.

Oh, please tell us all about it when it does!!
The Dvorak is amongst my 10 favourite cello concertos of all times, I like listening to Rostropovich recording on LP and JLW's on CD, best versions so far! A credit to Italian cellist Mario Brunello's version, which I heard recently on the radio.

There are precious few recordings of Moeran's beautifull Violin Concerto, so this impending Chandos release with Tasmin Little / Andrew Davis is something to look forward to imv.

Tasmin Little: The Lark Ascending. Chandos: CHAN10796. Buy CD or download online. Tasmin Little (violin) BBC Philharmonic, Sir Andrew Davis

It will be interesting to see how this compares with the excellent Georgiadis / Handley recording on Lyrita, as well as the historic recordings of Sammons and Campoli with Boult.

More information from Chandos here, including details of some appetising couplings from Delius and Holst, some apparently new arrangements of familiar Elgar and another ( Little / Davis ) recording of the ubiquitous Lark.

Chandos Records is one of the world's premiere classical record companies, focusing on superb quality musical recordings.

I watched some video streams from this year's Verbier Festival in which Daniil Trifonov featured, and he came across as an exciting young talent. This is definitely worth a try.
