Not sure about this one. Much that I admire Abbado, but with the Mahler Symphonies I already have, i suppose there is bound to be duplication.

I'm looking forward to this as I don't think I have any of these recordings: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Claudio-Abba...ll_full#disc_1

Thanks, Bryn, just what I was looking for. I'll be getting this as a birthday present to myself.

The sound quality is excellent . The Schubert 4 is terrific to my ears one of the most invigorating accounts I have heard. The Britten Serenade is very moving and so different to Britten's own recording. I really like the passionate nature of Gerald English's singing. There is a warmth that does not seem out of place . I should have love to have heard a du Pre/Barbirolli Cello Symphony on this basis !

The Sibelius 2 is very enjoyable if not quite at the white heat of the RPO recording.

Anyone noticed the new release by Emanuel Ax, 'Variations'. Heard an extract on CDR this morning. Sounded like a 'must 'have'!

Here's another great boxed set for the birthday wish list: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bruno-Walter...=I7CDM0EA5JOZ1

There'd be a fair bit of duplication but will still be a worthwhile buy.

You never know, the price might fall between now and my birthday (early June). On the other hand...

Pleasure, BBM. I take it you are interested in this set? As it happens, I've bought one or two of the CD's in recent Sony boxes, which is a bit annoying, as well as searching out some issues second hand but this looks like a fantastic box to have.

Can't find a listing yet. Looks as though it might be one of those Leonard Bernstein sized boxes which some round here didn't like (the box size I mean), though with fewer CDs.

If you click on the right hand image and enlarge it, you can make out the contents list. There appear to be 39 CD's and if it is one of those LB sized boxes I shall be very annoyed as they are impossible to store properly. Won't deter me from buying though.
