A couple of things that caught my eye….
The New Isabelle Faust disc including the Stravinsky concerto.

A big new 8 CD box “ Compositrices” of recordings of romantic french women composers.

The Stravinsky is good, as no doubt you've read (I'm getting used to the sleazy trumpet!). In fact it's way better than good, but I'm adopting Ofsted rules, as one off moment downgrades the overall rating!
But I do wonder who the Compositrices were having their romances with, not that it's any of my business.

I got this a couple of weeks ago (as a download) as soon as I saw it and am greatly enjoying investigating. An important collection and it will take a while to do it justice. There are quite a few vocal items and this otherwise exemplary issue is slightly let down by not including texts. I have spent time tracking them down, finding some but not all. I emailed Bru Zane to comment on this and ask if they can supply texts but have not received a reply.

That's a shame about the texts. Do keep us updated on progress.

Commented on before. I agree, but, as Bryn remarks, it doesn't really matter if you're streaming rather than purchasing.

The BPO Petrenko set of Shostakovich (S8, S9, S10) gets a glowing review in today's Times:

A brutal invasion brings devastation near Europe’s borders, sparked by an autocratic Russian leader. Populations breathe a miasma of fear, nightmare, and paranoia. This is the world we currently live in; it is equally the world reflected in Shostakovich’s war-haunted symphonies.

Is this a sign of things to come, CD boxed sets costing less than their lossy mp3 and lossless CD rate FLAC alternatives?

Supposed to be delivered tomorrow, La Poste permitting. Most of what I’ve heard so far from KP, earlier Suk recordings on CPO included, has impressed me so I’m looking forward to hearing this set.

Very tempted by the excerpt played on today's RR. I hadn't heard the Schreker Chamber Symphony for a long while & had forgotten what an engaging piece it is.

The whole programme is really fascinating - although you probably won't want to listen to the early pieces on it too often, the "Nachtstück" from Der ferne Klang and the orchestral songs are beautiful (as is the Symphony of course).

Yes, I’ve had this on in the car a lot these past 2 weeks (I confess to having only downloaded the chamber/instrumental pieces). Fascinating album, much to discover and enjoy (including an excellent performance of the happily already-familiar Farrenc 3rd symphony)
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Has anyone here checked out the new Vanska Mahler 9 on BIS yet? I see it is on promotion on eClassical in various download formats, including surround, for a little under £10. No sign of it on QOBUZ as yet, but it was only released on eClassical today.

For the latest instalment in their Mahler series, the Minnesota Orchestra under the direction of Osmo Vänskä presents what many consider to be the pinnacle of the Austrian

And I'm not disappointed. Seriously good. Very not cheap but 2 x CDs, a Blu-Ray Disc (Audio and Video), voucher for the 24/96 downloads - and a free week of the BPO's Concert Hall - very handsomely presented, so not a rip-off. Mahlerei has reviewed the performances on Music Web:

Any further comment from me would be, to use a favourite word, 'otiose', other than to say that the recording quality on Blu-Ray Audio is, to resort to a cliché, pretty much, 'state of the art'.

I was gripped by Petrenko's Mahler 6th when I heard it - and his Mahler 7th, as in last year's Proms, was outstanding. So, perhaps not surprising that his DSCH is in the same league. Will he, I wonder, take on the 4th? That would be worth travelling to Berlin to experience.
