Just out of interest were they ever on the ‘Erato’ label?

If you get the chance try Maria Martinova 's Rubicon recording of Ravel, Debussy and Zanon. In my experience its rare to find a piano recording that does justice to the instrument and player but this does in spades. I haven't heard a better recorded piano sound, it is wonderfully natural. There are several pieces on the disc - Sunken Cathedral, Ondine, Scarbo, la Valse that are breathtaking. I listened just after hearing the new Buchbinder DGG disc and I think DGG need to ask Rubicon to engineer their piano recordings in future.

The way 'labels' get used over the years and in different national markets, is a real minefield, for sure. One of the most curious must surely be the case of the 1968 release of Messiaen's Et Expecto ... and Couleurs ... under Boulez's direction, issued on both Erato in France and CBS in the UK (these days owned by Warner and Sony respectively). Both options have remained available under each parent company's control since the dawning of the CD era.

Another St Matthew Passion, this time with all male voices. I was always hoping Edward Higginbottom would get round to doing it after a fine St John with all male voices, but maybe this new one will do just as well. I heard parts of it on France Musique this morning.

I agree, the Higginbottom St John is very fine. I cannot find a UK source for the CD of the Johannes Stecher St Matthew - it's available at jpc.de

Die CD Johann Sebastian Bach: Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 jetzt probehören und portofrei kaufen. Mehr von Johann Sebastian Bach gibt es im Shop.

Has anyone seen the CDs on a UK site? Not at Presto or Amazon that I can find.........

The Chandos site has it as downloads (£9.99 per disc equivalent for CD rate lossless).

That Stecher St Matthew Passion is on Qobuz. I sampled quite a few movements this morning. Pretty swift tempi (swift by HIP standards, I mean). And I wasn’t really impressed by any of the (all young) soloists. The conductor's booklet notes give his justifications for both tempi and choice of young voices, but I'm afraid I wasn’t convinced by the practical results.

I found it on Amazon by typing in Bach Stecher in the search facility.

Maybe I'll just stick with the trusty old Harnoncourt version.

I tried that, and found the download and no link to the physical product.

However, in the mean time, I ordered it on 3 December from musicmagpie and the CDs arrived this morning in the post at a cost of under £10 including delivery, and the CDs and box are as new....... now looking forward to listening this afternoon.
