Shopping around, I've bought the Benjamin Grosvenor/Gershwin CD recording on Decca from Sainsbury's Entertainment @ £8 99!

And I thought a tenner was good for the new Ben Grosvenor !

I wonder if records still have an official 'list price' - and what would it be for a Decca full price job ?

It was priced at £16-99 in a shop which I visited today - needless to say I didn't buy it !!

I was trying to find a track listing for the forthcoming re-release of Jean Martinon's Debussy/Ravel set [see Bargains thread]. Usually I find listings at Presto Classical - but there's nothing there yet.

In the meantime I found this Ravel set from Decca, due in September - http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/Decca/4783725

If you follow the Amazon link given, you can look at the back of the box and then zoom in to see the contents - good enough for the works, if not the actual tracks.

Those of you who loved Roth & Les Siecles in Firebird might care to note that their Liszt release, of the Dante Symphony and Orpheus, is imminent. No reviews yet but I've preordered it down by the river...

Don Petter: Re msg 274 thanks for ths enlargement suggestion.

Continuing the Debussy/Ravel theme, there's also Boulez - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Boulez-Condu...9&sr=1-1-spell About £20 from market place sellers with postage. A little more than £3/CD. [Sorry, not perhaps a new release. Maybe should be on the Bargains thread, though slightly questionable.]

... don't imagine Caliban, for all his enthusiasm for the Stravinsky disc will be rushing to add this to their shopping list, somehow!

I'll be very tempted if I see it just a bit cheaper!

Sticking with Debussy, I see that Brilliant have re-issued Gordon Fergus-Thompson's excellent survey of the solo piano music.

I'm a great fan of Roth and happy to hear about the new Liszt release. Their other recent offering is of a piano concerto by one Dubois,

which I haven't yet heard - does anyone know if it is worth a listen?

Just heard the ending of Kongold's violin concerto with Benedetti to be released next week. Sounded very good

                        More here - http://m.youtube.com/watch?desktop_u...c3WKHnuU&gl=GB

Could be worth a punt, though not so cheaply as I erroneously posted before editing!

Well, sorry, but that Korngold sounded shapeless, self-indulgent, field day for harpists, sort of Andre Rieu without the panache.

I didn't hear the programme, but the Naxos with Philip Quint is worth far more than a punt - go on - try it! It is a superbly lively and skilled performance - oh, and very enjoyable!

I didn't hear all of it, and Andrew did say that it had a big wide sort of film sound, which sems appropriate to me. I'm not sure I'd pay a tenner for it though, but if it drops to £6 I might go for it. It can be a pretty brash piece, and maybe it is! I don't think we are talking about Beethoven or Brahms, and there's nothing wrong with that. I haven't heard enough from André Rieu to be able to comment further.

                                Ooh harsh!

It's certainly "soft-focus" Music, heavily sugared and self-indulgent - but I love it! (I'd've said "a sort of musical Andre Rieu", with apologies to Beecham.)
