Decca have finally got around to issuing a Bernard Haitink box set

His complete studio recordings with the Concertgebouw on 113 CDs and 4 DVDs.

As well as his Decca recordings, the set includes some live recordings from the Concertgebouw’s own label and the first international DVD release of the Eurovision Christmas Matinee performances of Mahler’s symphonies.

It’s not cheap (£342.50), but I imagine might appeal to some of Bernie’s fans on here.

"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Under £3 per disc does not seem that excessive, especially with the Christmas Matinee DVDs included. I, however, will not be in the market (too many duplicates, by far, including those DVDs). Oh, and what, no Blu-rays to temp the likes of me?

Likely to be Christmas present to myself.

Some unexpected inclusions such as the Christmas Matinee discs and the LPO DSCH Symphonies to make a complete cycle.

I hope the original Bruckner and Mahler sets will be the remastered ones.

Been waiting for this for a long time so glad it has finally appeared. Yes, I've got loads of duplicates and it's a hefty price tag but all that is irrelevant. Likely to be a Christmas present to self too!

Not expensive per se but after duplicate spiliiage?

              For me, as I indicated, a non-starter.

Not really an issue for me - the only Haitink recordings I have are the RVW symphonies! (which won't be in that box)

For fans of John Ogdon (and Rafael Kubelík), this looks interesting:

In the summer of 1968, a few days after the brutal suppression of the “Prague Spring”, the Czech émigré Rafael Kubelík conducted a gripping concert in his adopted home city of Lucerne: a Haydn Symphony, full of joie de vivre, and a passionately glowing account of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony frame Schoenberg’s Piano Concerto, played by the British piano legend John Ogdon in his only appearance at Lucerne Festival.

I’m listing to the concerto now, it’s streaming. The sound is not the best. It sounds to me as though Ogdon was in a pretty wild mood that day - and it must be infectious because there’s sympathetic vibes from Kubelik.

Mark Viner's new CD of piano music by Cecile Chaminade, it's volume 2 (volume 1 is excellent)
                      Best regards,

I already have three CDs of Chaminade by Peter Jacobs. It is charming piano music.

Can anyone find this on Amazon? Decca Classics have it down for release on October 7 as do Presto, but despite other later releases showing up on Amazon, I can't find it. Might it be hidden away in some obscure place as happens on Amazon from time to time?

Since "Haitink" as the search criterion and "Release Date" as the order of hits offers no positive results, it looks like they are holding back on listing it. They are not usually so shy.

Using the EAN for the Haitink box (0028948527373), this is currently all there is:

Nicely done, and at a rather more attractive price (under £2.20 per disc, pro rata). Worth placing an order and staying ready to cancel it if a better offer turns up?
