I’m listening to the enormous variations on Ich ging einmal spartieren. A steady and underwhelming start but fortunately it really takes off after 10 minutes and seems to maintain the high intensity for the remaining 40. H L Hassler’s organ music is one of the big unexplored areas on record - there are things, but nothing as complete as this. Tomadin has chosen good instruments, and judging bt these variations the recording quality is absolutely fine. There’s a huge amount of new music here to explore - a large number of very substantial magnificat fantasies for example.

I haven’t heard the Ormandy but it is well regarded. The recent Sony mammoth Ormandy mono box release highlights his devotion to American Composers. I bought Dutton SACD Boulez Bartok recordings which were originally released in Quad and they are very impressive sounding in both stereo and Multichannel
