Yes, apart from the Fux oratorio which is 2 CDs on its own. There's a lot of beautiful music there but much of it duplicates some of the pioneering recordings of early Austrian music by Harnoncourt and Goebel.

I’m listening to the enormous variations on Ich ging einmal spartieren. A steady and underwhelming start but fortunately it really takes off after 10 minutes and seems to maintain the high intensity for the remaining 40. H L Hassler’s organ music is one of the big unexplored areas on record - there are things, but nothing as complete as this. Tomadin has chosen good instruments, and judging bt these variations the recording quality is absolutely fine. There’s a huge amount of new music here to explore - a large number of very substantial magnificat fantasies for example.

Ah, that's worth knowing, as I have most of those, and very good they are, too.

The Dutton SACD of Ives 2nd and Holidays Symphonies (surround and 2-channel stereo layers) looks interesting. The Holidays Symphony, in particular, was well-received when first released by CBS, IIRC.

Strange that it should turn up on Dutton.

They seem to have done some sort of a deal with Sony to release their catalogue of quadraphonic recordings as 4-channel surround SACD, Sony having thrown in the towel on SACD despite having jointly developed it with Philips (who, as now part of Decca/Universal, have also given up on it, licencing some of their quadraphonic recordings to Pentaphone).

With all the wonderful recordings from Pygmalion already in the catalogue, I think this new version of the St Matthew Passion promises to be something rather special.

My favorite Ives recordings are Andrew Litton on BIS SACDs, as I feel Ives benefits from multichannel. I haven’t heard the Ormandy but it is well regarded. The recent Sony mammoth Ormandy mono box release highlights his devotion to American Composers. I bought Dutton SACD Boulez Bartok recordings which were originally released in Quad and they are very impressive sounding in both stereo and Multichannel

Apologies for the immodest post but see, "What Are You Listening To Now?", #16850. Shameful admission but I have always had respect for - rather than any great liking of - the SMP. This recording has quite changed my view. I've now bought it.
