In medias res, nothing but impassioned enthusiasm so far, hope to say more soon but poor health and low energies mean all serious listening (like everything else) is taking a long time ...I might open up a dedicated thread on it later....
One thing I can say for sure is the recorded sound is marvellous - so tangible, perfectly balanced and highly-resolved it would be easy to mistake it for an SACD. A joy to listen to, the performers right there before you...
First musical impressions are of readings combining mature wisdom with freshness and flair. Far, far more to them than some mere instrumental or orchestral revisionism.
The sheer structural originality of No.1's first movement really tells, so the shock of the piano's entry in the recap is truly shocking; one of many examples where the clarity and character of the period instruments and the Blüthner prove their aptitude.
(Just stumbled upon this excellent description...https://www.morissenegor.com/wp-cont...o-Concerto.pdf

There should be a “Dolby Atmos” switch in music settings...... but I’m not seeing it.......
Edit...apparently I need IOS 14.6, but I’m on 14.4, with no update prompt yet .....I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

In Scotland, the Reformation changed far more than it did in England and few traces of religious art and music from that period remain (there are only three fragments of pre-reformation stained glass extant, somewhat incongruously displayed in a window of a minor denominational church in Edinburgh's Cowgate, for example) that we must cherish whatever escaped the Calvinist purges. I hope for more recordings of music from this period. Whoever owns the rights to Collins Classics should consider reissuing their Carver series (I lost mine to a burglar back in the late 1990s!).

I remember seeing a drama programme on, iirc, ITV(!) about the life of Sir Thomas Beecham who was played by Timothy West. As part of the project saw him conducting, The Halle, led by Michael Davis, was dutifully employed. Obviously, Timothy West was extremely good at characterising Sir Thomas but his conducting technique was basic so I was very surprised to hear him and the orchestra attempt the beginning of Brahms 3. Inevitably, it was a bit of a shambles with Michael Davis doing some scroll waggling in an attempt to keep it all together. I wondered who choose that particular work knowing it’s one of the most difficult starts in symphonic music.

Unlike its predecessor in the Brahms symphonic canon, rather more difficult to get right. I'd listened to the Argerich/Barenboim Debussy "Fantaisie" just before it so the lovely playing of the Budapest FO was like balm after the decidedly sub-fusc offering from the Berlin Staatskapelle.
