Wow! Terrific new recording, one of the best I've heard, of a key Martinu masterpiece!
I initially read this as "Calling all Mantovanians"....

I have the all the broadcasts from the festival transferred from cassettes to CD-R.
We must be thinking of different festivals as "my" festival was def MTT. It was at the Barbican. It may have been the New World Symphony rather than the LSO now I think about it

Not, then, in the festival including the songs you referred to in #2187. That festival would have been the 1996 Unanswered Question series: https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...n-1325213.html

If you were at the performance I was at, it was fairly early in the 1990s - not as late as 1996. I'm pretty sure it was MTT.

I'm pretty much stuck on one of them - François Joubert-Caillet's complete recording of the second book of Marin Marais's Pièces de Viole, altogether 142 movements which come to just over six hours of music. For obvious reasons I associate this kind of repertoire with the sound and style of Jordi Savall, whose recording of selections from this same book was the first Marais I ever heard. I don't think it detracts at all from Savall's pioneering achievement to say that this recording builds on it to reach a whole new level of expression and instrumental beauty in Marais's work.

I look for dates of composition with things like this (1981/2005), but otherwise it's the innocent ear...

Well , I have had a listen to the first concerto on Apple Music, and I’m really impressed.Absolutely bubbling with invention , energy, and lots of interesting combinations of sounds, over( or under) laid with spectacular and gorgeous sounding cello.
i think this is a great find, Jayne.
There is a violin concerto recorded by Pat Kop, also available on Apple Music, but not too much else out there AFAICS, although some bits and pieces on Youtube might be worth a listen.

Edit: there is a very , possibly inappropriately short break indeed between the two concertos on Aplle Music. I wonder if this is deliberate, or indeed the same on CD or other downloads ?

Beatrice Rana's new cd of Ravel and Stravinsky on Warner Classics is absolutely superb!

I do better than that in royalties each year for simply having recorded the 1972 PTO at the Orangery, Holland Park concert, and that's a CD-R release from the Experimental Music Catalogue. One year it even topped £1. There again, IIRC, the four musicians and I (or at least, the three surviving musicians and the estate of the fourth) share proceeds equally after the overheads are accounted for.

Oh! Definitely not a new release.

Looks as though a new box set of Wilhelm Backhaus recordings will come out in January. As yet there are insufficient details - number of CDs, contents of the box etc.

Indeed - I was just too lazy to look there and post the link. Seems that you're slightly less so ...

39 CDs - not sure if worthwhile. The "other" people may have a lower price for pre-release orders.

                                https://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-De...s=music&sr=1-1 £65.25 currently.
