    - it's Klemperer in Fidelio and the Missa Solemnis, too.

Having got two of the 50 CD EMI boxed set issued a decade or so ago,

and already having the symphony, concerto and sonata, etc. complement of the Warner box, I am not in the market for it. The DG/Decca box is more complicated. Not only is it more complete, including a few recordings made specifically for the release, it also comes with what appears to be some potentially worthwhile documentation. Still a great deal of duplication, however, so I will probably refain from purchasing either set.

Georges Solchany unfamiliar to me & seem to recall the Artemis quartets well reviewed. Good price too. Who will buy both?!
When these big centenaries come up it would be good to see some the recordings that have been out of the catalogue for some time eg the RPO Dorati Beethoven Syms on DG or the Halle Loughran set.

I’d be very interested to hear both of those cycles Cloughmeister.

Some further details here - https://www.prestomusic.com/classica...complete-works but still no complete listing. A maybe - for me - having just bought sets by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, so there is likely to be considerable duplication. The complete - or so it seems - piano sonatas by Stephen Kovacevich seem worthwhile, but maybe those are available in a collection elsewhere. Indeed, as I turn my head I see a box on a shelf which I think has those recordings - so looks as though too much duplication for me.

But you must make space for the lovely CD which Richd: Barrett commended here recently :

Can I thank all concerned, not least M. Vinteuil, for these recommendations.

I’ve sought out on Qobuz and loaded up all the cpo recordings (Grand Concertos for mixed instruments, and the wind concertos) and that Darmstadt/Ambassadeurs disc (which is playing as I type) - they are exactly what the doctor ordered at the moment (house in mayhem due to renovations, Telemann drowning out the sounds of drilling and sanding).

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Agreed. Now that the final "Grand Concertos" disc is out I decided to listen through all of them and got to the end of the second yesterday evening. Of course quite a few of the pieces are familiar, having been recorded many times over the years, but even when that's the case the new recordings come over very well, and of course it's just nice to have a complete set. I remember when you had to get your bits of Telemann where you could find them. These days it's hard to keep up.

Now that's exciting! I was wondering when we might get another helping.

Up for the new Mehta box, Cloughmeister??

Complete Columbia recordings, looks a huge affair!

What works did he perform with the New Philharmonia?

Top work Nethersage. That looks a proper box doesn’t it?!

At the risk of appearing dizzy, what does Columbia signify in this context?

                            Who owned that label?
