I was very lucky with most of the Shostakovich recordings. Found them in a rack outside a kiosk in one of the alleys off St Martin's lane, some decades ago. £3 each (reviewers copies, I think). I have managed to collect together most of the Prokofiev series over the decades too, though not at qute such bardgain prices.

Let's hope it acts as a filip to those who do not yet have most of the recordings in the set.

Friday is the day for Qobuz to post New Releases on Discover, and there've been armfuls this Autumn... just today you have Corelli from the Freiburg Baroque, Schubert 1 & 6 from René Jacobs (I listen frequently to the early Symphonies, love their expansiveness), Dutilleux/Lutosławski Cello Concertos from Moser/Sondergard/Berlin RSO, Mozart 39-41 from Herzog/Appassionato, Schubert d810 from the Chiaroscuro....and much more.
Earlier we had a fiery chamber Eroica from Nizhny Novgorod/Emelyanychev (move over, Currentzis), Antonini's Choral, Ein Feste Burg from Herreweghe...

It's all too much....! But - Schubert first, then the Songes.....

Same for me Cloughers. Somehow there’s invariably a feel good factor about a NJ recording and this is a good selection.

Bryn has always been into complete editions!

Thanks. Duly ordered from EPB (aka MDT) for 50p including p&p (that's with the unexpected £10 off, due to a 'gift voucher' having accumulated.

[As is often the case with string quartet ensembles, there have been several changes of personnel in the London Haydn Quartet since the first volume of their ongoing Haydn series.]

I omitted to mention one of the best, earlier Autumn releases in a very rich season...

                    Schubert Symphony No.5; Brahms Serenade No.2. ORR/JEG.
Soli deo Gloria rec. live 19/11/16 Concertgebouw Amsterdam. 24/96, CD etc.

Also acclaimed in this month's G. by PQ, it is very special indeed. So special that I bought the CD even after repeated streaming....
I so wish we could have more live revisits to classical rep with JEG - Schumann, Brahms etc...

Bach Violin Concertos. Shunske Sato/IL Pomo d'Oro. Erato. 24/88.2. Qobuz Studio Stream.

Startlingly sharp and fresh readings of some very familiar masterpieces from a Baroque Violin specialist - a new name name to me but one I won't forget, such is the marvellous freedom and tonal purity with which he sings, dances and almost improvises the solo part. I love to hear musicians play like this - to really own the music; I've played it over and over....
Sato-san has some masterclass videos on youtube as well. Very engaging young fellow, who throws some winsomely Romantic poses with trees in the album booklet. (I wish they'd specified his instrument though). One to lift the late Autumn gloom...

Remember that devastating use of the A minor andante at the end of Truly Madly Deeply? Watched it again last night and almost wish I hadn't...

Well, it’s all power to the vinyl retro revival that is helping prop up the industry, and encouraging some slightly different ways of listening to wall to wall streaming, for those who have experienced little else. but to be able to read this recommedation, download on apple music whilst on the train, and have a listen moments later is a big upside to modern tech, for sure.
                          Thanks for the recommendation Jayne.

O brave new world that has such features in it....

Attachment is fascinating isn't it? As with the JEG Schubert/Brahms (see above)I might buy this Bach CD just because... the heart grew fond...

Listening on my way home. It’s actually been a beautful autumn day in London, business has been good, lunch in the park near Russell Square, and this is a terrific way to spend the journey time home.

IL Pomo d’Oro are bringing us some cool sounds right now, what with the lovely Orlinski disc released just a few days ago.

Shunske Sato is a familiar name (and face) to those of us following the Friday episodes of All of Bach (as in Ferney's ongoing Something for a Friday thread) - he's the regular leader of the Netherlands Bach Society, and appears as a soloist in a number of those videos. Lovely player, I agree.
