    Rachmaninov Cello Sonata

Last night, looking for something to listen to, I randomly picked off my shelves a CD of Hough and Isserlis playing this and greatly enjoyed it, not having listened to it for years. This morning on Record Review Ian Burnside is recommending the new Queyras/Melnikov recording. Which others should I be listening to?

Gautier Capuçon (cello) and Yuja Wang (piano) on DG (2021) give us a lighter, less ‘Russian’ view of the piece, one that survives repeated listening.

The same artists, playing with more freedom, at the Verbier Festival, 2013 - https://youtu.be/uWEzVQYu4HQ

Compare Capuçon with the currently feted Trifonov at the same festival three years later, but showing himself to be much less of an equal partner than Wang - https://youtu.be/sT5oM-lGvGs

      Nelsova/Balsam, H Schiff/Leonskaya, Rostropovich/Dedyukhin, Mork/Thibaudet - a really beautiful work.

I have the classic Isserlis/Hough . I also had the Natalie Clein version which is also very good but it seems to have gone missing.
