It's just 4cm and 33mm of blank on my screen.

Worked fine on my PC but not on the IPad.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

It all depends on the interpretation of the pause at the end of the second movement.

I think they should do it . Eminently clippable and easy to edit from a production point of view .One could comment on level of tape hiss on early recordings . Even in silence there is a present acoustic. The work will sound very different in the Royal Festival Hall from my own recent recording in my living room . The sound of my breathing hitting the strings of my Blüthner boudoir grand - really quite remarkable. No two performances can ever be the same …There is no silence really ….

On some of the listed recordings, there’s a significant amount of ambient sound. There are samples on the Presto website.

Um. Exactly what I did. What a surprise, something else an iPad can't handle. Dreadful toys! Getting music on them is a ridiculous hassle, too.

I lost in interest in this piece when Arthur Fiedler programmed the disco version-

Ah well 4’ 33” has never been a big part of my listening, Bryn. I’ll look it up via my laptop dreckly! Strange how this problem has only presented itself recently!

My last performance included an ensemble of the washing machine , the cat demanding breakfast , my son bouncing on a trampoline and an Amazon delivery next door.

Good that you got into the spirit of the work and listened attentively.

                              "The rest is silence."

The Bard at the cutting edge of artistic developments once again?

[Sorry to lower the tone (still further) but can anyone recommend a Highlights disc for those of us with short attention-spans?]
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
