Yes - EXCERPTS! (or Auszug as the label proclaims) I kid you not - the middle movement is ommited!! It is a label I have never heard of ZYX Music Ref: CLS 4412. All rather odd.
It's a handy back-up, I suppose - NOT an essential CD in view of the others available.
ZYX is an extreme German based budget label (1 CD for 99 eurocent, 2CD-sets for 1euro99), and has many remarkable and good performances (many from German or Austrian broadcasters). But the documentation is non-existent, and they fill their CDs with bleeding trunks. I've got an excellent Berg orchestral pieces op.6 combined with Schönberg's 2nd Chamber symphony and the first 3 movements from the Lulu-symphony, and a CD with Beethoven's 3 piano quartets WoO 36 with the 1st mvt of the Spring sonata as filler...

      Hello Roehre
Thanks for that useful background info. Extraordinary! I found this oddity in HMV Bond Street about 7 0r 8 years ago - 99p in a sale bucket, I seem to recall.

        Many thanks Verissimo, and Amateur51.

Remarkable, Hilary Hahn and SRSO/Salonen put a great deal of colour into the piece, so it is immediately enjoyable, whereas with Schulte/Craft it was a very austere black and white affair. Admittedly I was listening on a different audio system, and it may not be a good idea to listen to a new piece of music on a bed-side clock radio. Still, with one stroke of the bow, Hilary smoothed away that worried frown.

Today the Hilary Hahn, SRSO, Esa-Pekka Salonen disk landed on my mat, its order and delivery aided and abetted by recommendations from you good guys.

My first reaction is "WOW! WOW!! and THRICE WOW!!!". I am so used to the dreadful orchestral noises on the old 1960s Vox Turnabout LP with Wolfgang Marschner and the Southwest German Radio SO under Michael Gielen. Hahn and her colleagues make Schonberg sound as beautiful as the Sibelius that follows it on her LP. It could be Brahms or Bruch. Magnificent. Maybe it is a tad more closely miked than I would prefer but with such beauty of tone and technique like Hahn's who am I to complain?

The thread about the Piano Concerto reminded me of this and poignant to see the last post by our much missed Chris N .

The Hahn remains a revelation to my ears . I look forward to adding Uchida in the PC.
