I presume you are referring to the Stern recording, although you haven't made that clear. It is available here, coupled with Debussy and Enesco (sic).

It's a fine sonata - and I, by chance have 2 Oistrakh/Richter versions; one recorded in 1968, on 5-disc Melodiya Oistrakh set, and the other on Russian Revelation, recorded in 1966. But I also love Chung/Lupu's performance.
I'm still thinking about acquiring Franck's string quartet......

Great investment, unfortunately the Frank isn't in it but there's loads of good stuff that is.

I've still only got the Oistrakh on LP (Richter (12/1968) and Yampolski).

A favourite that hasn't come up yet is the Grumiaux/Hadju version, not sure if it's been out on CD. It's more fiery (yes, hardly a Grumiaux characteristic) than the later version and it has his wonderful sound.

Kavakos is good too, I guess nla.

+ 3. This has been a favourite since it was first issued; I bought it on spec.

[Any chance of spelling César’s name correctly in the heading?]

Danczowska/Zimerman has joined Chung/Lupu as my favourites - baffling that she appears to have made so few recordings . She plays with enormous feeling and has a beautiful tone .

I agree Barbs - her small number of recordings is a puzzle but what we have is gold

For me, Yehudi Menuhin with his sister, Hepzibah on the now defunct Biddulph label from the early 30's. IMHO, some of the finest violin playing ever committed to disc. It's c/w with Lekau sonata which finds the young Menuhin's in blistering form in a type of no holds barred, GO FOR IT! music making that simply doesn't happen on record today.

                          Pure gold.

I have that, imo, magical partnership of Kyung-Wha Chung and Radu Lupu. Anyone else have this?
