I'm wondering how this "Summer BaL" slipped under the radar and was excluded from the list for so long, lonely and unnumbered. The only solution was to use the King's Cross station method of numbering (though I suppose KC could have renumbered all the platforms).

I was so taken up with the music that I forgot to listen out for major differences but it all seemed to make musical sense to me. It was a fine performance from a conductor whom I don’t automatically associate with Bruckner but, given his credentials in big works by Messiaen et al, I shouldn’t really have been surprised.
I direct you towards https://www.classicstoday.com/features/Bruckner-4th.pdf without fiurther comment at this stage.

Well, a "Number Nought" is entirely appropriate with this composer, of course.

Lately I've been snacking on Nelsons' Gewandhausorchester Bruckner 4 and to say the least, it's growing on me.
'Snacking' - it's a four course meal that can last up to 80 minutes or more!

Now devouring the 1888 version (ed. Korstvedt) with some relish. This Vanska recording sells it very well. To Hell with Hurwitz's pathetic attempt at a debunk of Kostvedt's work. Take Hurwitz's 'argument' that Bruckner bequeathed to the Imperial Library not this 1888 socre but the 1878/80 version. Why would the composer have needed to thus 'bequeath' the 1888? It was already in print! What a troll among music commentators that Hurwitz is.

"Our Summer BaL - favourite recordings of Capel Bond", perhaps?

Oh come on. He's on a par with Bernard Michael O'Hanlon for his 'flaming' reviews.

... and why, pray, such a snide dig at the eminent Capel Bond?

... both Hurwitz and O'Hanlon are useful. As an initial stab, whatever they say, the contrary view is preferable...

They're more useful than stopped clocks.
