Wouldn't it be better to discuss this in the actual BaL thread?

I got the Franz Konwitschny box (Musicweb review here) when the recordings were enthusiastically mentioned at the start of this thread. His time as Gewandhaus Kapellmeister is still very fondly remembered by older Leipzig music lovers. His Seventh on this box has become one of my top favourites. I note that they have recently been re-issued by Berlin Classics as digital downloads in various formats. The CDs I already have do sound fine but tempting nonetheless.

The Leipzig Gewandhaus/Blomstedt recording will take some beating in the 7th, an absolutely terrific performance. Those, like me, who were present at their 2016 Prom will know what to expect and Blomstedt delivers. Weber's words, after the first performance, that Beethoven was 'ripe for the madhouse' might have some truth in it after all!"The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
