Wouldn't it be better to discuss this in the actual BaL thread?

My favorite has been the 1970s account of Solti and the CSO

Krivine/Chambre Philharmonique would be my first choice, off the top of my head.

I got the Franz Konwitschny box (Musicweb review here) when the recordings were enthusiastically mentioned at the start of this thread. His time as Gewandhaus Kapellmeister is still very fondly remembered by older Leipzig music lovers. His Seventh on this box has become one of my top favourites. I note that they have recently been re-issued by Berlin Classics as digital downloads in various formats. The CDs I already have do sound fine but tempting nonetheless.

Many thanks for the heads-up about this. Having enthused about the most recent LGO cycle (Blomstedt) and, with vague but very positive memories of the Fontana LP of the 7th, an irresistible opportunity to compare the orchestra in 1960 and the orchestra in 2015.

Probably mine, too... it's a wonderful performance.

The Leipzig Gewandhaus/Blomstedt recording will take some beating in the 7th, an absolutely terrific performance. Those, like me, who were present at their 2016 Prom will know what to expect and Blomstedt delivers. Weber's words, after the first performance, that Beethoven was 'ripe for the madhouse' might have some truth in it after all!

Not sure when it was recorded, but Blomstedt and the Swedish RSO in Beethoven's 5th on TtN tonight.

The Blomstedt/Dresden account from the 70s is very good and I bought the whole cycle for about $10

You were done. A few of us here paid £2.99 or less at Superdrug stores when they were clearing a number of Brilliant Classics sets.

There's also the SFSO Blomstedt 1/3 which are very good!

Claudio Abbado's re-mastered version, of his DG cycle is great as well as CoE, Harnoncourt.

I bought the Krips/LSO set for $5 and a coupon to load the MP3. Rarely listen to the discs but when I travel I am frequently playing it
