I'd be interested in hearing Rowicki and also BRSO/Kubelik which for some reason I haven't encountered.

Both are excellent however - the BRSO comes c/w Janacek's Sinfonietta. The DG can be had in a twofer of syms 6-9.

I thought this was an enjoyable BaL, with extracts from quite a few of the many recordings available. Alsop's recording sounded very good, as did Belohlavek's with the Czech PO. I also enjoyed Mackerras and Colin Davis and the tantalising single extract from BPO/Kubelik (I couldn't hear what the reviewer was complaining about). But I agree with him about the Kertesz, a quite outstanding recording which I have never heard bettered.
The sole extract from the Rowicki was a real disappointment - what a pedestrian opening, followed by an abrupt acceleration!

This BaL inspired me to carry out a census of my Dvorak symph discs. Up popped the Talich on Naxos which I'd forgotten, and a BBC MM BBCSO/ Belohlavek to go with the Kubelik (x2) mentioned above. But should I get that Kertesz?? (His wonderful 8th was the first Dvorak symph in my LP collection - I never rushed to get the New World - but for some reason I've never bought any more of his cycle.)
Well, if it's coupled with 4 and 5 I'm still a bit light on those so I think I can justify it
Toughest question after the census is, Will the completist trainspotter in me cope without the 2nd? Having been horribly disappointed with the 1st and only slightly more impressed with the 3rd, that's a real toughie
PS The Kertesz 4/5/6 twofer duly ordered but managed to steer clear of the 1/2/3 one.Last edited by LeMartinPecheur; 21-12-13, 14:39.I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
