Indeed, and I did the exercise partly for my own benefit. Here I was with these six recordings collected over a period of 35 years, to which I had never listened in quick succession. It was all most illuminating, I must say. I probably won't return to the Brendel, but I bought that set for the live 1976 Diabelli Variations which make it indispensable.

List of recordings now moved to #8 to avoid confusion following merging of threads.

Is this the longest list yet, Eine? Such an array of talent.

This looks like it could be a classic tho' the list is impossibly long - I look forward to DON's analysis of the piece as much as to the choosing

It certainly felt like it, though the Beethoven Violin Concerto was fairly extensive too.

                Great list, EA.

I have Gulda, Pollini and one of the Solomons but I recall enjoying an R3 broadcast performance by Annie Fischer a good few years back.

In order of acquisition since 1972 I have Kempff (stereo DG), Arrau (1960s Philips), Bishop aka Kovacevich (Philips), Solomon (std EMI), Edith Vogel (BBC MM), Sodergren, Annie Fischer, Schnabel, Kempff (mono DG), Gould (1st recording) and Arrau (late Philips CD).

Probably time I got a decent one then??
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

There is a rather interesting disc (unfortunately, not currently in the catalogue) of, I think, Austrian Radio recordings of performances by Arrau, Backhaus and Badura-Skoda.

I still have a 3LP Pollini box set of late sonatas which was my staple for many years. I have several CD versions but now favour Gulda and most recently Lubimov.

                          Pollini will surely win.

but the price has now become somewhat inflated.
