Let's hope the reviewer doesn't have the same eccentric response as this Amazon customer's extraordinary reaction to the Tallis Scholars' disc.

Perhaps a concerted effort to mark this review as "unhelpful", as I have just done, might be, er, helpful. What next - "I found this music distracting whilst mending my bicycle"

Sounds like a "Breakfast" tweet about the Alto Rhapsody!

Looking forward to the Byrd BaL.

(I think Alpie is away - his comment on the OP of the Brahms 2 said he had to be away for a day or two. Hope he's enjoying the Sun, and that all is well with him and those he loves.)

Yes, I'm looking forward to CD review and the Early Music Show next week. I have several recordings of the Byrd Masses and have finally finished my acquisition of the Complete Byrd Edition by the Cardinals Musick and Andrew Carwood.

Simon Heighes with a personal recommendation from recordings of the Mass for Four Voices by William Byrd

            The Sixteen, Harry Christophers
Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Oxford, Stephen Darlington
Clerks of the Choir of New College Oxford, Edward Higginbottom

Tallis Scholars, Peter Phillips (CD versions)
            Tallis Scholars, Peter Phillips (DVD)
            Oxford Camarata, Jeremy Summerly

P.S. I've changed the heading just to make it clearer for future reference.

                I envy you!

Have you been collecting them one at a time as they came out, or is there now some complete set available?

No i have collected them one at a time. I am surprised there isn't a complete set. It took me a while to get all of them.

I am quite happy with them. There is allot of material to digest but I never tire of them. I also have their recent recording of The Great Service as well.

I picked up vols 11 and 13 after a Cardinall's Musick concert in St David's Cathedral - several Byrd discs on my shelves but a tendency to keyboard and consort music... I'm looking forward to learning more about the Mass....

I also have Davitt Moroney's Complete Keyboard set from Hyperion. My CD shelves are quite packed with Byrd's music.

It's a great work to sing. I've done so many times.
