Through a blind listening test on another site I discovered this version—an 'alternative' one but one I find quite pleasing:
The winner hasn't been announced yet, so I don't know if Jurowski, Abbado or Haitink are contestants at all or where they placed, but nothing I've heard yet has swayed my loyalty to Jochum/LPO.

I have to say exposition repeat and all I have fallen for this Kertesz recording especially marvellous horn playing . The whole set on Eloquence with his wonderful recording of the Serenades thrown in has been a complete treat this spring . I only knew his Fourth before on a Decca Jubilee cassette but always loved it .
A wonderful set , superbly played and beautifully recorded .

Best of the enlivening recent revisionists.....
Tapiola Sinfonietta/Venzago (gorgeously cantabile!), Swedish CO/Dausgaard......
I have not listened intensively, but Scottish CO/Ticciati seems a worthy successor to the classic Mackerras (who based his very free readings on a study of the annotated scores of Fiedler and Steinbach) with the same orchestra.
As for Norrington - broadly I prefer the LCP in this cycle, but both they and the SWR are excellent, ear-opening experiences....
Glorious one-off: Czech Phil/Ancerl, 1967, on the Supraphon Gold Edition...Last edited by jayne lee wilson; 27-11-21, 21:14.

(It also emerged top of the pile in the French radio record critics’ blind listening survey (against some of the distinguished company mentioned here) as I probably mentioned up-thread"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
