I've been listening again to the recording of this concerto made in 1948 by Eugenia Uminska with the Philharmonia conducted by Gregorz Fitelberg, reissued on Dutton. It's by no means perfect, but Uminska - like Wilkomirska - seems to capture the spirit so well. And Fitelberg's conducting of Szymanowski is wonderful. Really worth hearing, I think. http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/prod...?prod=CDBP9808

Just for a moment I thought that Katie Derham had launched yet another glittering career!

Yes some of the recordings are those already released such as the marvellous Franck/Szymanowski record she made with Zimerman for DG and the Szymanowski concertos with Kord but there is a lot of other material and not just concertos.

There is also a lovely booklet in which she discusses the recordings and her work with Oistrakh,Uminska and Zimerman.

                    I've just watched all three.

I hardly know what to say except that I don't think that we'll hear her in either of KS's concertos any time soon.

Now all that we have to wait for is a programme in which Alina Ibragimova goes back to her first love, newsreading...

                    Ahem.

Yes many thanks for spotting this. I have the Zimerman but I don't even have her Szymanowski concertos yet and they've had great reviews.

This Kaja Dancowska box has given great pleasure . There are two CDs of shorter chamber works which show great character and a lovely Chausson Poeme with piano .

CD 3 is particularly fine . A wonderful Brahms a first Sonata , a fascinating transcription of the second clarinet sonata and a marvellous account of the Panufnik Violin Concerto with which the Menuhin recording struggles to compete .

Just listened to the Chausson on your prompting, magnificent and so well recorded too. I'll go through the rest of the box over the next couple of days.

                          thanks
