I've got both concertos with Zehetmair and Rattle conducting the CBSO, with the added bonus of encores with the gorgeous Silke Avenhaus on the piano. That'll do for me! (EMI CDC 555 607-2)

            Not so difficult:

A favourite CD (and the Britten was almost the BaL recommendation - a thrilling if mildly flawed performance) and violinist - recent Hindemith concerto performance made it sound like a minor masterpiece

Easily found (new) via amazon.co.uk, and for only a little over £6 including p&p.

Just make sure you look under the "New" category rather than the "Used". At least 5 suppliers are offering it for around £4.85 + p&p.

That's the ticket! And only a few pennies more. Does this qualify for bargain status?

Steinbacher is listed on the BAL site as 1st choice so Zimmermann must be 'unavailable'.
I've got Zimmermann, Benedetti, Zehetmair, Danczowska and Eschkenazy do I really need Steinbacher too?

Good shout by whoever recommended that, Bbm You'll be relieved to learn you already have the winner, when you get back... because as we know....

I've yet to catch up with this BaL - were the recordings by Kaja Danczowska and Chantal Juillet mentioned in despatches?

I've downloaded and am listening to Concerto 1 which is stunning a great recording. As other post have said the CD is available from Amazon as well. I downloaded form iTunes. This makes me want to know more about the composer as I know very little about his other works.

Just finished listening - I was very pleased to hear Rob's applauding the Danczowska/Kord recording.

Just to say what a brilliant BAL that was! I'm a sucker for Szymanovsky's sound-world anyway, but I thought this was Rob Cowan at his very best. Clear, perceptive, no flannel, just a very expert guide through available versions. How good to hear him away from the tweets and charts and chat of Breakfast.

No - unless you want hirez. She is very good but not better than Zimmerman IMHO.
