Great!! I have few versions of this excellent stuff!! It will be good to see if there are other versions worth having. This is a MUST listen. Learned these pieces from a set of Supraphons from the Slovak Chamber Orchestra. Op 6 may be among the few baroque pieces that do stand up to heavier treatment - but I don't mean Karajan!!

    BTW is't 15th a Friday?

Pinnock and the English Concert (sic) for me. Just more elan and joie de vivre than the rest. Great tempos.

This is glorious music. I have an old set of I Musici which is probably not available now and might well be dismissed as old-fashioned. I also like Scimone and I Solisti Veneti but look forward to hearing a range of styles and interpretations (especially La Petite Band under Kuijken).

                Wrong thread, old bean!

I'll be very interested in this Corelli BAL a week tomorrow I plumped for Sigiswald Kuijken/La Petite Bande on DHM when buying these on download a couple of years ago, I think it was the best value and I have enjoyed it. It seems to be a bit of an outsider and I'll be fascinated to hear how it fares against the favourite with Pinnock in the saddle in his familiar EC silks
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I have always had a soft spot for the luxuriant big-band HIP sound of Ensemble 415. It should indeed be a fascinating programme, but I too would bet that Pinnock will win first place.

But do you mean tomorrow (Mozart's 19th piano concerto), or a week tomorrow (Corelli).

I Musici was the first choice on 18 November 2000. The reviewer was Lucie Skeaping.

Thanks, ds. I always thought it was pretty good. They had some fine players in that ensemble, including Salvatore Accardo and Bruno Giuranna. I'm sure their recording of the Corelli concerti grossi was rereleased under the Eloquence label.

This is completely unknown territory for me so I'll be listening with ears wide open - could be expensive
