Stern/Istomin/Rose for me, though, strangely, not currently available it seems. An unsurpassed, barnstorming performance, even if you are seated at the feet of the players.

Second choice would be the original Beaux Arts Trio on the Philips Duo containing all the Brahms Trios:

    A superb set!

I saw this very set on sale in a charity shop in Huddersfield last November - for £1.99. I took it to the counter, where they began the search for the actual discs. Half-an-hour later, and with the time of the concert I was attending looming close, they still hadn't found them, so I left the shop without the goods. When I went back a couple of days later, the case had been removed from display!

A magnificent piece, some glorious recordings and the excellent Mr Burnside: the potential is tremendous!

"Your favourite Piano Trio" wouldn't be the worst thread ever.

              Take it away, maestro !!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                  Thanks for this list.
It would be useful to mention recordings of the significantly different original version. The Gould Trio has done both versions, and there's another recording of the original version by the Trio Op. 8 on Arte Nova. I'm sure there are others - but I'm not sure if any of them are in Alpensinfonie's list. I find it fascinating to compare the earlier and later versions of this work.

Sounds very tempting combination !- would have loved to heard them in the Triple Concerto !

Do we know if this BaL will cover both versions of the work? I've just bought the Gould set which includes both, but haven't spun it yet
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

I 've had Stern/Rose/Istomin and Heifetz/Feuermann/Rubinstein for several decades. It's a work I love and am definitely in the market for something new.

                        Capucons/Angelich?

I guess this BaL is mainly about the 1892 version.
Is known which of the above mentioned are recordings of the 1854 original?
I guess a mere handful recordings of the 1854 version is available at the moment.
