Hmm. I thought this one might meet with a muted response. I admit to never having heard the work myself, so I'm off to YouTube to try it out.

Quite popular with me. I do have (at least) seven recordings, but only two on CD, of which one seems not currently available (l'Odeon/Collard on EMI).

How wonderful to see the names of Thomas Igloi and Clifford Benson once again, two excellent musicians who died relatively young (Igloi was 29; Benson was 60)

Late Faure is something of a weakness for me. Not much between Poltera/Stott and Gerhardt/Licad for modern recordings.

The recent and ostensibly attractive boxed set of all Faure's chamber works on Virgin Classics with Capucon/Angelich in this work is sadly unlistenable (as indeed is the rest of the collection) due to the dreadful recording balance and ambience - a shame.

I got to know this recording on the good value Brilliant Classics Box. It's a convenient package and generally recommendable.

Same here, gurnemanz - a treasure trove and a great bargain to boot

The first movement seems to me a potential candidate for the "Little Phrase" at the centre of the love between Swann and Odette in Swann's Way.

I have an off-air recording from the mid-80s with Rohan de Saram and David Pettit, which I very much enjoyed last time I listened to it (probably 20 years ago!). I don’t think de Saram has recorded it, though. The other one I’ve got is Igloi/Benson, also pretty good IMO. I can’t get enough of Fauré chamber music when in the right mood. It ought to be a good BAL, since there aren’t too many recordings, for once.

Tortelier on Erato for me but I imagine the Isserlis is going to be a bit special.

The late chamber music of Faure. So elusive. So delicious.

I have Igloi/Benson - very good. And an interesting recording by the 18 year old American Peter Wyrick with the ancient Earl Wild from 1986.

Her first paras far too long and with too many insights packed together that needed illustration. Let's see if she gets going.

I'm wondering why Tortelier is the only A-list cellist of past generations to have recorded this piece. Or did they do so and are nla?

I forgot about Gendron, not on Eine's list.

I think you need to change the date on the thread EA.
