He only ever posted twice on this forum and then quickly disappeared. As far as I know, other posters treated him with great respect, so there must be another reason.

Oh, yes; his posts on the old BBC Boards were always welcome - so generous of spirit and fizzing with infectious enthusiasm. I do hope he is well and happy, and so involved in all things Sibelian that he just doesn't have time to spend on the Forum.

Thank you both. Whatever King Christian II is doing instead of joining discussions on this forum, I hope that he is well and happy--and still engaged with his love of Sibelius's music!

I also miss KCII's posts and enthusiasm for the 'Mighty Finn'.

I've also often said that Forum members should be approached to do a BaL.

I think I might opt for something with very few recordings...

KCII was much involved with recorded music societies in Devon, Torbay for one. He founded the Torbay Music Weekend in 1970 and was listed online last year as the (active!) Hon President of the Osmington (Dorset?) RMS, still visiting Lahti for Sibelius congresses
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

There has been the occasional email/ letter from him read out on Breakfast, the last one not that long ago. Sibelius related, of course.

Thanks, LMP. I do wish he'd find the time to rejoin the Forum! He may have stopped posting for health reasons, of course.

Indeed. His annual reports from the Lahti Festival were a delight to read.

Oh dear, I do like Sibelius 2 but am thinking do I really need multiple copies - but then, how do I choose which of my live Vanska or Oramo or Davis recordings to dispose of? And whilst Kajanus or Toscanini are interesting, do I really need it on the overfull library shelves? Have to have Collins as that`s part of a cycle, but then so are Davis (RCA or LSO live)....sometimes this collecting mania is too fraught..

I just hope he is OK..... you know what I mean. It is a mystery, however. Let's hope that it is a case of no news being good news.

Always signed his posts as John Davis, Totnes, Devon. (118 118?)

I haven't heard BAl yet, I'll have to use iPlayer, but I did hear the chosen version this morning on Essential Classics. I suspect that the reviewer has not lived many years with this music. The Colin Davis live version is fine if you like a version with vocal accompaniment, but as a performance it seems oddly lifeless, not in the same league as his Boston recording for example.
I have twenty eight versions in my collection, and would certainly prefer Monteux, Koussevitsky, Kajanus,Szell , Barbirolli or Beecham. Kletzki is fine as well, and I would not want to omit Bernstein, his bargain box is very interesting.
I suspect that the lady had her nose in the score, nothing wrong with that, but what lies behind the notes in her recommended performance?
