Was Solti's mentioned.... I can't recall; or Ormandy for that matter. Two performances which I particularly enjoy (notwithstanding Solti not being everybody's cup of tea)
I guess the "staple" here is Klemperer - and with good reason; it's damn good listening!
I find Herreweghe very good indeed, but a bit lacking in "punch" please forgive my terminology, but I am not a musician, so it's the best I can do, but I know many of you are of the world of music, and have probably not even read this far into my posting!
Neither Solti nor Ormandy received a mention. They were included in the pre-programme sweepings...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I don't know if it's just me, but I have the impression that BaL has changed, in that only a small handfull of "available" recordings are pre-selected, and - well, that's it, folks. Hardly a representative survey, that's for sure.

You're right - it's for reasons mentioned in recent messages...

In the past when there was pre-selection (which is usually essential), I seem to remember we used to get some brief details of what had been excluded and why.

I don't doubt that, but surely then this is changing the goalposts, as it has become more of a "This is what we think is the best recording of work in question, so there" rather than a balanced survey. OK - I know some works have literally hundreds of available recordings, but more often than not, celebrated and highly lauded versions are completely blanked... or at worst binned for "technical reasons" ignoring the spirit of the performance, as well as the fact that they have been loved and listened to millions over the years, blah-dee-blah-dee-blah.....
Glancing back through this revived thread (with memories of the now defunct Thropplenoggin!) I seem to have already said what I have to say on this topic. I was interested to note that I was alone in mentioning what I find to be a very worthwhile Colin Davis version coupled with Mass in C.

Is that on the Philips label?
