Surely an ideal opportunity to give us a conspectus (or should that be traversal? ) of one of those composers who never feature on BAL (e.g. Medtner; Xenakis; Varese etc).
I think these BaLs take a lot longer to put together than some of us imagine

24 Nov 2012. Obviously they think we have short memories.

I think you're giving some of the reviewers too much credit. Many these days sound like they've been cobbled together on the hoof.

You are, of course absolutely correct. List amended.

I've merged the two threads also.

Tough job for the very excellent Stephen Plaistow.
One doesn't need to if one has heard the Lipatti !

The Carmen Piazzini set of the complete Mozart Sonatas mentioned enthusiastically by teamsaint a year ago is available as a very good-sounding MP3 Amazon Download at the ridiculous price of £4.49. It is superb:

Why am I getting a sense of deja vu (entendu)?

Can anyone explain to me why we are getting a repeat of a recent BAL when it is still available as a podcast on the BBC website?

Would it not have been better to have played more new releases (of which there are many flagged up on another thread) or got in Rob Cowan to have discussed historic reissues (after all, RC loves nothing better than to wax lyrical on historic recordings)? Lazy broadcasting, I'm afraid.

I wondered this. One of my favourite BaLs in recent years, so much so that I listened to it again as a podcast only a few weeks ago. Plaistow's presentation is impeccable. I'm sure he'll appreciate the repeat fee.
