I had a Claude Rains moment today: I was "shocked" to discover that I apparently only have 1 recording of this piece-- the venerable Kemp/Dresden. I know I had a DVD Audio of Ozawa but it appears to have gone missing-no great loss--so someone--especially EA--recommend a few alternatives. I am to lazy to plow through this 36 page thread

Reading about the Ausklang section overleaf reminded me of a time a few years ago on a ski holiday when a friend was trying to get me to appreciate Adele's "21" CD, which I found tedious. In return, inspired by the scenery, I played him Ausklang. He listened for a minute or so then threw off the headphones muttering "boring."
Each to their own...

So ... just Leeds, then.
Should be extraordinary - that orchestra; and Markovic's Rosenkavalier showed he has a real feeling for Strauss. And Tapiola, too!
Pity about the Bruch.Numquam Satis!

Just been reading EA's rankings. He places Mehta/LAPO in the bottom league - this was the first version I ever heard and I found it underwhelming at the time. I've seen discerned some virtues in it, though.
Hatiink, by contrast, is highly rated and I also have his version. He is the only conductor I've heard conduct this work in the concert-hall.
