I'm not sure, but I've just ordered 3 more, bringing my total to 58. I'm just not willing to pay inflated prices for those I'm still chasing.

Just found the Concertgebouw/ Haitink Alpensinfonie in a Launceston charity shop for £1.99 so maybe there is a god

It's blowing the windows out as I type. Wasn't quite sure about some of the grumblings of lower wind instruments just after the start (some loss of impetus?) but it soon grabbed me: splendid horns, on- and off-stage, throughout.
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Ps. I played in the Scottish Premiere of the Alpine symphony!

          Great piece.

(Mrs PG and I are going to hear the BBCSSO play it in the Edinburgh Festival, couples with - Beethoven's 'Pastoral' symphony!)

Thanks alpen. My friend p.martel has sent me an off-air recording of the BBC NOW performance in Cardiff the other week (which I attended), and it still sounds splendid. Otherwise I have Haitink/Concertgebouw on LP and Thielmann/VPO on CD. What a thrilling work.

Many thanks, but I'm a bit confused by what is being played and who is playing it. Are you able to fill in any details?

Many apologies, EA, not quite sure why the link didn't work (I probably miscopied it) but it's on the Musicaphon label and features the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Roman Brogli-Sacher. I originally found it on the jpc.de website, then on amazon.de (where it's cheaper). I'll try this link and hope that it works this time

Willkommen zu klassischer Musik auf Cantate und Musicaphon

Interesting looking series of discs of live performances from the orchestra, including the Scriabin/Strauss

I've tried a couple of times to order this CD, but every time I click on "confirm order", it crashes. Has anyone else had any luck with this site?

I can't get the cut and paste to work but if you try www.jpc.de and type in strauss eine alpensinfonie lubeck you should find it. At the time of posting, i think from a cursory glance that they have 1 copy in stock.

Thanks, HD. However Bryn has very kindly pointed me in the direction of an Amazon site stocking the CD, so I now await its arrival.

But thanks for all your help - in particular, making me aware of its very existence.

Here's one more to add to your list:

USSR SO cond. Evgeni Svetlanov. Russian Melodiya LP C10 20369 008, sleeve dated 1968. The sleeve notes are all in Russian, except for a small section in English singing the praises of Svetlanov.

I've pencilled LIVE on the back of the sleeve next to "Recorded at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire on May 5, 1968."
