I compared the Praga SACD to the Regis of Richter's selections and sure enough, it is that bit more refined and subtle in tone and dynamic; a little more space around the instrument too. True of the CD layer as well. The gains were incremental rather than dramatic, but if it means much to you and you care about sound, certainly worth having.

Recorded by Ariola/Eurodisc, in 4/1983 for the Études, 9/1971 for the Preludes....
The Alto inlay gives Munich 1984 and Salzburg 1971, but most commentaries correct the former to 1983. Amazing what a little online research can do...

Returned from a day trip to London yesterday where I was delighted to find Foyles’ music department thriving and as well stocked with the ‘physical product’ as ever. Invested in a copy of Giltburg’s recording of the preludes and have not regretted it; a worthy winner to set beside the Ashkenazy.
